COVID-19 UPDATE-1 (11/02/21): Remote Learning

Dear Hume Central Families,

As you may be aware, the Premier has announced that all of Victoria will move into a 5 day lockdown commencing at midnight tonight. As a result, students will be learning from home for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.

Onsite support for vulnerable students and children of essential workers
All campuses will remain open to support vulnerable students and children of essential workers.
– Members of the wellbeing team will communicate with relevant families regarding the option for students to attend next week.
– Teaching staff will support students to engage with learning in an appropriate space at each campus.
– Parents who are essential workers are asked to make contact with reception of their relevant campus on Monday morning to outline their circumstances.
– Students who attend onsite must be in uniform and bring a charged laptop and other necessary learning items.
– Please remember that all students who attend onsite must bring and wear a face mask and that all visitors that come onsite must also wear a face mask.

Student Wellbeing
The College Wellbeing Team will make a Compass post by Monday morning that will outline how students may be supported during this period. This will include a link to a student survey designed to check in on their wellbeing and to request support.

Remote Learning:
Lessons will start at the usual time.

Subject teachers will:
– Publish a brief lesson outline in the lesson plan section of Compass. This should include: Zoom link, learning intentions, learning tasks and links to any resources;
– Connect with students via Zoom and remain in the Zoom class for the first 15 min of their timetabled period to mark the roll, provide explicit instruction and explain the learning task;
– Year 12 teachers will aim to remain online with their class to answer any questions for at least 30 and no longer than 60 minutes.

Students will:
– Access lesson plans uploaded to Compass at the time of your usual lesson;
– Arrive on time in the Zoom class, with the camera switched on;
– Work independently on the learning task during the lesson;
– Check the school email daily; this is the primary source of communication between you and your teachers.
– Email their teachers if they have any questions or concerns.

Year 7 Students:
Year 7 Team Leaders will send information to students via Compass regarding an assembly that will occur on Monday morning to support Year 7 students with remote learning. College staff will contact families of Year 7 students (and other new students) who have not yet been allocated a device to make arrangements as soon as possible.

Whilst this situation presents a challenge for us all, I am confident that we will once again work together to support each other. Hopefully, this period of lockdown / remote learning will only be until Wednesday and we will all be back on site on Thursday.

Take care,
Jeff Mulcahy
College Principal
