Active Adventure Bike Education Unit

Throughout our 7-week Bike Education unit, students developed their knowledge, skills and confidence in cycling through a range of practical and classroom-based activities.

Students learned about different types of bikes and their features, including how bikes work, basic bike maintenance and how to complete safety checks before riding. They developed their practical riding skills by completing different tracks, courses and riding challenges, focusing on balance, control, braking, steering and safe riding.

A key focus of the unit was road safety, where students learned about road rules, bike safety, identifying hazards, appropriate protective equipment and how to make safe decisions when riding in different environments.

Students also had the opportunity to design and create their own bike games. They considered the aim of the game, rules, equipment, safety and how to make their game enjoyable and inclusive. Students then participated in and provided feedback on different bike games.

By the end of the unit, students developed greater cycling confidence, bike knowledge, road-safety awareness, creativity and teamwork, while exploring cycling as a fun and active way to participate in physical activity.
