Active Adventure – Rock climbing

Yesterday, our Year 9 Active Adventure students took on an exciting rock climbing challenge as part of their elective program. The session provided students with the opportunity to step outside their comfort zones, test their physical abilities and demonstrate the resilience and teamwork skills we have been developing throughout the term.

Students began by learning about safety procedures, including correct harness fitting, belaying techniques and clear communication between climber and partner. It was fantastic to see students take responsibility for one another, ensuring safety checks were completed thoroughly before each climb.

Throughout the session, many students showed incredible perseverance. Some initially felt nervous about climbing heights but demonstrated outstanding courage by attempting progressively more challenging routes. Others focused on refining their technique, problem-solving their way up the wall and supporting peers with encouragement from below.

The experience highlighted key elements of the Active Adventure program — resilience, trust, communication and positive risk-taking. Students worked collaboratively, celebrated each other’s achievements and displayed strong sportsmanship throughout the afternoon.
