Indigenous Commitment

Our commitment to First Nations Australians is important for supporting our regions, as well as fostering a culturally safe and diverse Hume Central Secondary College community.

As a College, we are committed to providing accessible education for all students, dedicated to increasing the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people participating in secondary education as students and graduates through a supportive and inclusive environment where all can thrive.

Our Senior Campus, located on Tanderrum Way, stands as a beacon of cultural respect and historical significance. This site honors the enduring connection to the Kulin Nation and other Aboriginal Victorian nations, who have graciously allowed safe passage and temporary access to their lands and resources for centuries.

Our multi-campus approach facilitates a journey through Tanderrum, fostering a deeper understanding and connection for our students. Here, we create a nurturing environment that respects the traditions of the land’s original custodians while providing a vibrant educational experience. Through this connection, we aim to inspire and empower our students with cultural competence skills to navigate as respectful, kind humans within a diverse world.

We believe that by embracing the rich tapestry of history and traditions, our students will develop empathy, respect, and a profound appreciation for the diverse cultures that shape our society. Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to incorporate Indigenous perspectives, ensuring that students not only gain academic knowledge but also learn the importance of cultural preservation and reconciliation.

Our campus is equipped with spaces for cultural exchange and dialogue, where students can come together. Offering workshops and activities that celebrate the arts, stories, and languages of the Indigenous Australian peoples, encouraging students to explore and express their own cultural identities.

College Houses

Our College prides itself on a deep and respectful connection to the Indigenous culture of the land on which we are situated. Our house symbols—Balit, Dhumbali, Noogal, and Tamboonamon—serve as powerful beacons that bridge the past and present, fostering a meaningful connection between our students and the traditional owners of this land. Each house symbol is thoughtfully chosen to reflect the rich history, values, and spirit of the Indigenous culture, encouraging students to learn, appreciate, and engage with these timeless traditions. By embracing these symbols, we aim to cultivate a community that honors and respects the land, its people, and their enduring legacies.
