Melbourne Victory UNITES Football Program
Melbourne Victory has been attending the Dimboola Road campus since the beginning of Term 2, facilitating the Melbourne Victory Unites program with our students. In Term 2, the Year 8 cohort participated in dedicated Boys and Girls groups. This term, it is the turn of the Year 7 cohort, with the Year 9 cohort set to participate in the program next term.
The Melbourne Victory Unites program focuses on developing leadership skills that support improved student engagement and align with school values. Tailored to targeted cohorts, accredited coaches deliver a mix of practical and theory-based workshops that use football as a teaching tool to explore topics including:
Dribbling, passing, shooting, receiving, possession, defending, playing, attacking, teamwork, communication, self-esteem, goal setting, resilience, regulation, kindness, sportsmanship, community connection, problem solving, mental health and wellbeing, respectful relationships and employability.
In addition to the dedicated Boys and Girls groups, John, the Melbourne Victory coach, also oversees lunchtime outdoor and futsal games that are open to all students. Three teams are selected to participate in a round-robin-style competition, with the winning team continuing on to the next round.
