Naidoc Week
Last week, the College celebrated Naidoc Week with various activities. Students from our Koori Club engaged in an Indigenous Leadership Program organized by the Korin Gamadji Institute (KGI) in collaboration with the Richmond Football Club. KGI focuses on delivering education programs emphasizing leadership, culture, identity, and social & emotional well-being, guided by experts in the field. The institute offers a culturally safe space for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander youth to nurture their aspirations and personal growth.
Throughout the week, the Koori Club hosted lunchtime events to celebrate their culture and the diversity at Hume Central SC. The activities included a welcome to country, elders sharing insights through a smoking ceremony and a didgeridoo experience, a ‘walk in my shoes’ fundraiser, and a stall featuring Aboriginal artwork, crafts, and food.
Hume Central takes pride in its vibrant Koori club, where students from diverse backgrounds serve as leaders and advocates for Indigenous culture within our school community.
